Girder/truss from the R100 airship

A girder/truss believed to be from the R100 airship built at Howden, Yorkshire in the late 1920s to the design of Barnes Wallis. It consists of four aluminium tubes cross braced and welded. Spiral wound welded tubular girders were a distinctive feature of the Barnes Wallis design for the R100. Obtained by the Science Museum from Precision Manufacturing Services Ltd in 2001.
