Medal, commemorating the opening of the Aquario Vasco da Gama, Lisbon, Portugal, founded by oceanographer and naturalist King D Carlos I, during the 400th anniversary celebrations held in 1898 of the discovery [1498] of the sea route to India by navigator Vasco da Gama. 'Entregue a Marinha de Guerra Portuguesa em 1901'. Brass alloy, 80mm diameter, ht 5mm, in green square cloth box 85x85x10mm. The Aquarium includes D Carlos I's collection
