Three interlacing sheets in red, green and yellow wool, in a cylinder shape, by Alexander Crum Brown, Edinburgh, Scotland, United Kingdom, 1914. Described in the Napier Tercentenary Handbook as a locked cylinder.
Crum-Brown’s use of knitting to make mathematical models was idiosyncratic and typical of his colourful character. These are extensions of the plane leather model above with the locked surface being cut and rolled up into a cylinder. If the two cut edges are matched with the same colour the surfaces are locked as before.
