Interlaced red, blue and yellow leather strips, 1914, by Alexander Crum Brown, Edinburgh, Scotland, United Kingdom, 1912-1914

Crum-Brown used three sheets of ‘differently shaded’ leather, each perforated by equal circular holes to demonstrate ‘locking’. If any one sheet is removed the other two fall apart. He likened this to the knot of the Borromean threefold ring.
