Sweet tin
- Made:
- 1936

Sweet tin, Barker & Dobson Confectionery, as used to send pond life sample by train from the Midlands for use in biology classes at Delabeck High School, Swansea, c1936, with perforated lid and the London Midland & Scottish Railway "Live Stock" luggage labels. As ‘common carriers’ the railways were expected to transport whatever their clients demanded, which sometimes led to them carrying bizarre cargoes. This tin originally held confectionery, but has had its lid pierced so it could carry live frogs and newts. The label shows that the sender paid to have it sent on a passenger train in the care of the guard.
