An artist is shown among the awed visitors at the scene. Stanley's unillustrated accounts of the hot springs near Rykum and Haukadal, in Iceland, were published in two letters to Dr J Black, 1791, with Black's analysis of their waters; and in the Royal Society of Edinburgh Transactions, vol.3 Pt 2, I, 1794, p127-137 and p138-153.
