Notice, North Eastern Railway, Instructions to Pointsmen, on wooden board, 1871, chessboard carved on back.

This notice reads:

"Notice to the Pointsmen At _____ You must not allow any person to enter your Cabin except the Inspectors of the Company who may have to make enquiries from you with reference to railway business, or Member of your Family who may have to visit you during meals. Any violation of this Regulation will subject you to Fine or Dismissal. Any of the Company's Workmen found in your Cabin will be subject to a Fine of not less than one Day's pay. You must post this notice in your Cabin so that it may be seen by any Person who may wish to enter. Henry Tennant, General Manager".
