Set of nine gunmetal Exchequer Standard Troy Weights from 30lb to 1lb, spherical with knob handles, made in 1824 by R.B.Bate, London. Weights for:- 1,2,3,4,5,10,15,20,30lb Troy or 12,24,36,48,60,120,180,240,360 oz. Troy. Each weight is stamped on one side with the value in Troy Pd., & on opposite side with the equivalent in Troy oz., & is further stamped with a crown and "1824 Bate London"

Set of nine gunmetal Exchequer Standard Troy Weights (30lb to 1lb), made by Bate, London in 1824. These were made as reference standards against which other weights could be checked for their accuracy. The Imperial Weights & Measures Act revised British weights and measures in 1824. The troy weight system was to be used solely for weighing precious metals and gems based on a pound of 12 ounces or 5760 grains.
