This pocket-sized set is packed full with a range of instruments and materials that would have enabled a medical practitioner to carry out a variety of treatments and minor surgical procedures, such as giving injections and stitching wounds. The metal case and instruments allow the set to be sterilised easily.

The set was made by J Gray & Son, a surgical instrument maker in Sheffield, England, in the first half of the twentieth century.
