‘Everest’ cigarette-style sweets, France, 1995-1996
- maker:
- Ferton-France SA
'sweet cigarette' style confectionary sticks with fictitious brand name of "Everest", one of five different packets, in packaging that accurately parodies that of real cigarettes, manufactured by Ferton-France S.A., France, 1995-1996.
On first glance, these look like real cigarette packets. They actually contain chocolate sweets in the shape of cigarettes. Made by Ferton-France SA, the sweets were controversially sold across Europe during the 1990s. In Britain a packet cost 22p.
Now usually marketed as ‘candy sticks’ rather than ‘sweet cigarettes’, concerns remain about whether the selling of such products to young children may encourage tobacco smoking.
