Sewerage junction pipe, one of twelve models for instruction in hygiene
A junction pipe was used to remove sewage from houses and this model is a quarter of the actual size. Made on behalf of W H Knight of the Hygiene Referendum, these models, from a set of twelve, were used to teach and assess officials involved in public health. (Hygiene and cleanliness were important to public health officials.) A full set of models cost about £3. It is shown here with a channel pipe from the same set (1896-61/10/1).
