Telephone 1/232CB S55/2 in ivory, unknown maker for the General Post Office, British, 1934-1957.

The introduction of plastics that could be mixed with pigments, such as urea formaldehyde, meant that the Post Office could offer telephones in a range of colours. The 232 was available in ivory, red and green as well as the standard black. It could also be fitted with a small tray at the base, into which could be slotted cards showing dialling codes for the local area.
