London and North Eastern Railway (LNER) general arrangement of A1 class 4-6-2 three cylinder express passenger engine, scale 1 inch to 1 foot, pen and watercolour, framed.

The London & North Eastern Railway's A1 class locomotives included the world famous ‘Flying Scotsman’ locomotive. The Flying Scotsman which notably hauled a service departing at 10am from London King’s Cross travelling to Edinburgh and cemented its status as an iconic locomotive after its retirement from mainline service in 1963 and its subsequent preservation. The A1 class were built between 1922 to 1935 and were rebuilt as the A3 class from 1928 to 1949, before being re-classified as the A10. Either this drawing or a similar copy was displayed alongside the Flying Scotsman at the British Empire Exhibition in 1924 and 1925. It has been signed by Sir Nigel Gresley and dated as 1923.
