Leather Gladstone bag with lock by Chubb and Son, 68 St James St, London SW, inscribed CAC

Chubb and Son were not in the business of making bags, but they were in the business of making locks, which is likely why this bag was produced. It is possible Chubb manufactured only the lock, with the bag produced by an uncredited manufacturer.

Chubb and Son occupied 68 St James Street as a showroom from 1874, then utilized the building as their head office between 1941-1955 when their original head office in Queen Victoria Street was damaged during an air raid. This bag was likely produced during the period the premises was their head office.
