BROTT flail type lawnmower, American design built in UK under licence, 1972

This was an American design, built in the UK under licence. It is a powered lawnmower with the operator riding on the seat at the front. The grass cuttings are collected in a sack at the back. It is from a very large collection of lawnmowers brought together by an individual family. A selection was acquired by the Science Museum to illustrate a number of stories relating to the history of grass-cutting, including the technology, the social context and sporting associations.
