British Railways biro

Made:
circa 1950

Example of the first British Railways biro. These biros, or "biro-style writing instruments" (per the donor's description) were actually wooden pencils with the lead removed and a plastic ink tube and ballpoint inserted. They were introduced in the 1950s. According to the donor, there were four colours - blue, red, purple (for checking) and green (for auditors). This example is blue. BR part no. 1364.
