Painting, oil or acrylic on compressed board, Stephenson's Rocket, 1829, by Lucjan Pietka, about 1951. Depicts a profile view of the Stephenson's Rocket, with the Rainhill Trials locomotives Sans Pareil and Novelty above, and then a profile view of a royal carriage, with the caption "1837 The Coronation of Queen Victoria". The legend at the top of the panel reads "1829, At trials held by the Liverpool - Manchester Railway Stephenson's Rocket triumphantly fulfilled the required conditions, assured the future of the steam locomotive." On the reverse is written "MX1/H1C" and "2" and there is a gummed British Transport Commission label with the number 1399/2/52. One of four exhibition panels produced for the Festival of Britain of 1951 depicting the development of the locomotive and contemporary historical events. These were displayed on the festival ship HMS Campania, which toured British ports with a travelling exhibition.
