Diabetes is a condition where the pancreas cannot produce insulin, or enough insulin to break down glucose in the body. Too high levels or too low levels of glucose can be dangerous to a person’s health. This infusion was developed to be a more convenient way of taking insulin rather than by injection. The battery operated pump continuously delivers a set amount of insulin during the day and night to people with diabetes. This establishes a more even level of insulin in the body than that created from direct injection. The insulin reaches the body through a fine plastic tube which is inserted under the skin.
The pump is worn inside the clothes or carried in a pocket and was made by Novo Nordisk.
