William Henry Fox Talbot (1802 – 1877) invented the calotype process. Developing the first reliable method for printing photographs from a negative, between 1835 – 1840.
John Moffat first opened a photographic studio in Edinburgh in 1853, and operated a number of successful studios across the city.
