Bernard was one of the earliest cinema showmen, entering the field in 1896. This collection includes handbills, press cuttings (from 1897 when he shot and showed his film of the Queen's Diamond Jubilee procession), letterheads and visiting cards, a contract with a music hall in London, letters from important figures in the early film industry (G C Bromhead of Gaumont and Charles B Cochran) and other related ephemera. The collection also touches on other industry institutions such as the Cinema Veterans and the Cinema Benevolent Society.
