Flint (large roughly-broken lumps, length 2 - 2 1/2 ins, from the chalk of Kent) and steel (perhaps part of a sword-blade; length 3 7/8 ins); bought in 1922 at Shanghai (flint from the Medway is imported in large quantities, partly as ballast and partly for china-making, and some of it, broken into these large lumps, is sold for making fire).
