Fire-steel (length 2 3/8 ins), with large ornamental hand-hold of cast bronze in form of a mermaid holding either a string of pearls or a length of seaweed; evidently by the same maker as the foregoing (no. 338); believed to be of the 16th century; formerly in the Lavedan Collection; figured in Gay's "Gloss. Archéol. du Moyen Age", p. 749. France.
