Fire-steel forming back of a brass-handled hunter's pocket-knife (length 3 1/2 ins), having two blades (one broken) and a cork-screw; handle, of cast brass, bears on each side the bust of General Chasse (1765-1849), a distinguished Dutch commander, with his name below, also a flaming bomb between laurel-branches, and various military trophies, all in relief. Holland. [NB: one of eight specimens (nos. 512-519). Five are ordinary pocket-knives, the backs of which are either intended for use as fire-steels or have been used as such. In the case of the other three, the back of the knife-blade has been so used.]
