Tinder-box of oak; square (5 3/4 x 6 1/4 x 1 1/2 ins), with straight handle, pierced near end for suspension by a string; has a drop-in lid, with knob in centre for lifting out; lid held in position by a wire pin when box is hung up; box consists of one compartment only; a rude, solid, home-made, cottage example, constructed of thick (5/8 in) boards; with it are its original steel and some small sulphur-matches. England.
