Tinder-box (4 1/8 x 2 3/4 x 5/8 ins) of sheet brass; shallow, rectangular, with hinged lid; well-made; exterior lacquered brightly; interior painted black; hinged damper or inner lid of sheet iron; on lid, a candle-socket (? a recent addition) of brass; contains flint (a small flake), steel (rectangular and cut roughly out of sheet iron), and three sulphur-matches (length 1 1/2 in) of reed. ? Sussex. England.
