Tinder-box (length 2 1/2 ins) of silver; rectangular, with lid hinged at one end; steel, with curved striking-face, on one side; another steel, roughened for use as a striker for friction-matches, on other side; a pipe-pricker and a pipe-stopper hinged to latter; plain, except an achievement of arms (much defaced and unrecognizable), engraved on lid; bears inside the London hall-mark of 1859. England. [One of 34 examples (nos. 730-763) ... of various shapes and materials. All are of iron unless otherwise described. Some are plain, but most are more-or-less elegant, both in shape and decoration. All are probably European.]
