Tinder-box (length 2 ins) of box-wood; tongue-shaped, with one straight end and small curved steel on side; lid, of same wood, with small shield of mother-of-pearl in centre, inlaid; bottom curved for pocket and corrugated; from Moscow. Russia. [One of 34 examples (nos. 730-763) ... of various shapes and materials. All are of iron unless otherwise described. Some are plain, but most are more-or-less elegant, both in shape and decoration. All are probably European.]
