Tinder-pistol (length 13 1/2 ins) of iron, with wooden butt, having heavy mountings in gilded brass, elaborately engraved; no socket for ramrod; a small brass drawer for holding spare tinder, etc., is in the hinder end of the butt; a folding foot in front, held in position when open by means of a spring; inscribed on barrel "Fromery, Berlin" (see no. 1126); evidently converted from an ordinary pistol; 18th century. Germany.
