Tinder-pistol (length 8 1/2 ins) of iron, with straight wooden handle; stands on three feet and the trigger; very small candle-socket at side; lid of tinder-receptacle closes with a snap-catch; a design of crossed pipes, playing-cards, etc., engraved on top of body; probably early 18th century. Germany. [Nos 1047-1075 are all of iron or brass and have wooden butts. All have external mechanisms].
