Tinder-pistol (length 9 ins) wholly of iron, with straight flat handle; the whole standing on three short feet and trigger; candle-socket and tinder-receptacle, both very small and both hinged on to side; upper surface decorated by engraving, traces of gold inlay showing in the incised lines; probably 18th century. Italy. [Nos 1047-1075 are all of iron or brass and have wooden butts. All have external mechanisms].
