Tinder-pistol of iron (length 7 ins) with wooden butt; butt inlaid with stag's horn, etc.; candle-socket at side; also tinder-compartment at side, its lid of brass, inscribed "A. Giraud" (but pistol probably made by a member of the Descos family, judging from its close resemblance to the foregoing, nos. 1058 and 1059); probably early 18th century. France or Flanders. [Nos 1047-1075 are all of iron or brass and have wooden butts. All have external mechanisms].
