Tinder-pistol of iron (length 6 ins), with wooden butt; butt inlaid with stag's horn; no candle-socket; tinder-compartment at side, a floral design engraved on its lid; probably made by some member of the Descos family, judging from its resemblance to examples made by them noticed above; no foot; probably early 18th century. France or Flanders. [Nos 1047-1075 are all of iron or brass and have wooden butts. All have external mechanisms].
