Tinder-pistol (length 7 1/4 ins) of steel, with carved wooden butt; candle-socket swivelled on to foot; tinder-compartment has illegible inscription on its lid; 18th century. England. [Nos 1047-1075 are all of iron or brass and have wooden butts. All have external mechanisms].
