Tinder-pistol (length 5 1/2 ins) of iron, with carved and engine-turned wooden butt; candle-socket on side, but no tinder-receptacle; floral designs engraved on body... probably early 18th century. ? France. [Nos 1078-1097 have the pistol-action mechanism enclosed in the body of the pistol].
