Tinder-pistol (length 7 1/4 ins) of brass, with mechanism of iron and wooden butt; butt engine-turned; candle-socket at side; ornamental brass foot; receptacle for tinder and sulphur-matches in short brass barrel in front, closed by a hinged lid at end; no decoration; 18th century. Belgium. [Nos 1078-1097 have the pistol-action mechanism enclosed in the body of the pistol].
