Tinder-pistol (length 5 1/2 ins) of brass, with wooden butt; slightly decorated by engraving; no trigger-guard; 18th century. (It was probably a tinder-pistol of this type that Sterne says he had stolen from him at Siena, about 1765: see his "Sentimental Journey".) England.
