Tinder-pistol combined with ink-well, pounce-box, pen-cleaner, and taper-holder (latter missing), all gilt-topped; the whole contained in a box (length 5 1/4 ins) of blued steel, standing on four short feet; a small drawer at one side intended to hold sulphur-matches, spare tinder, etc.; surface of box covered with designs of birds, flowers, etc., partly chased and partly damascened in gold; 18th century. Italy.
