- Made:
- England
Striker (length 2 1/8 ins) for friction-matches; handle of wood; striking surface of brass, with many transverse corrugations. (Strikers of this kind are met with not uncommonly in Berry's Instantaneous Light Boxes of the type of the three foregoing (nos. 1274-1276), occupying the central compartment, which they fill exactly. They were inserted, doubtless, by the maker (Berry), in place of the original acid-bottle, after Instantaneous Light Boxes had become obsolete. He did this, without doubt, to fit them for use as boxes for the new friction-matches, some of which he substituted for the original dipping-matches, whereby he adapted his old boxes to a new use and was able to sell off his remaining stock of them.) England.
