Match-box (70 x 40 x 35 mm); bottom sanded in blue; on top, a white paper label, printed in German, with the description, "Chemische Streichfeuerzeuge" (Chemical Friction Lighters), and a declaration, signed with the initials of the maker (H. Link, of Schüttenhofen), that the matches were approved by the celebrated chemists, Messrs. Geiger, Liebig, and Trommsdorff, and had been tested by the local authorities, and were not liable to cause fires through spontaneous ignition, though guaranteed to retain their properties for years, with two very small Coats of Arms; box contains about sixty Matches, with light bluish-green heads; date probably about 1835. Germany.
