Match-holder (2 7/8 x 1 3/4 x 1 5/8 ins) of thin sheet iron; rectangular, upright, with hinged lid both top and bottom; well-made throughout; exterior painted green; on top of lid, embossed, "By her Majesty's Royal Letters Patent. Rush & Co.'s Oxusophos", with the Royal Arms; inside are eighty-one upright compartments (each about 1/8 in square) for as many Matches; these are intended to be inserted from the bottom, head downwards, and drawn out briskly from the top, igniting at once by friction against sides of compartments; English patent no. 9579 of 1842, also a French Patent, dated 23 Feb. 1843, both granted to Henry S. Rush, of Sloane Street, London. England.
