Match-box (2 7/8 x 2 x 1/2 ins); exterior painted dark crimson; on lid, stamped in relief, a figure of a mounted Cossack with long spear; inside lid, a white paper label, printed in black, "Jones Brothers & Co.'s Royal Cossack Lucifers; price 1/-. This portable and elegant Case of Lucifers is strongly recommended for general use; having a Wax Taper, they suit the wants of the Traveller, Man of Business, and Gentlemen of Literary pursuits", with the Royal Arms; inner lid hinged at end and sanded on top for friction; date probably about 1855. England.
