[One only of] Two Boxes (2 3/4 x 2 1/8 x 7/8 ins), each of thin chip; oval, with slip-on lid; bottom sanded in red; on one side, a white paper label, printed in blue, "Dixon, Son, and Evans (late Dixon & Nightingale), Chemical Lights, Newton Heath, Manchester", with large view of the Great Exhibition of 1851 in centre; each box contains almost full complement of impregnated, square, wooden Matches (length 2 1/4 ins), with small reddish-brown heads; date probably 1851. England.
