(One only of] Three Match-boxes (2 7/8 x 2 x 1 ins), each of thin chip; sliding; slide covered with blue paper; both sides bear igniting-composition; on top, a yellow paper label, printed in black, "Protection from fire. Bryant & May's Patent Special Safety Match. London. Ignite only on the box", with trademark (an ark bearing the inscription "Security"); on bottom, a yellow paper label, printed in black, stating advantages of this match (namely, that it contains no phosphorus, is not poisonous, emits no unpleasant odour, is not liable to ignite spontaneously, and will ignite only on the prepared surface of the box); each box contains full complement of square wooden Matches ( 2 1/2 x 1/10 x 1/10 ins), having black heads; the earliest Safety-match produced in Britain; made in 1861.
