Section of beam screen from the Large Hadron Collider

Section cut from a spare 15m long 'beam screen' for CERN’s Large Hadron Collider, 2001. Particles in the collider travel in two pipes surrounded by superconducting magnets. The beams travel inside screens like these, kept at a temperature of 5K, so that the magnets are shielded from the radiation of the intense proton beam.
