Baird dual standard valve/transistor monochrome television receiver

Made:
circa 1968 in Bradford

Baird dual standard valve/transistor monochrome television receiver, incorporating VHF radio. Includes power cable and 4 legs. Built as a prototype at the Baird factory in Bradford, c.1968.

This prototype television set, made at the Baird Television factory in Bradford around 1968, also contained a radio that operated on the Very High Frequency (VHF) spectrum. It was built by John Walmsley, a Technical Support Engineer at Baird as part of a test by Baird to see if a market could be made for this combination of radio and television. However, this TV never saw mass production as the Baird factory did not want to negatively affect sales of their Hi-Fi sound systems, and this set remains the only example.
