The first digital cameras were bulky and expensive. The picture quality was poor, and the cameras could be unreliable and hard to use. However, they were also lightweight, and images could be downloaded directly into computers as digital files. The Sony Mavica's innovation was that it worked with a floppy disks, which at the time was a standard format for storing and moving digital files. Each floppy disk could store up to 2.8 megabytes of data - a tiny amount of storage space by today's standards.
