Drug jar for mercuric nitrate ointment containing traces of yellow ointment, pink and white ceramic jar labelled "UNG: HYD: NIT:" white label with red and gold border.

Labels on pharmacy jars are often abbreviated or shortened words in English or Latin. 'Ung Hyd Nit' strands for Unguentum Hydrargyri Nitratis or citrine ointment made from mercury, nitric acid and oils such as lard. No longer used due to the dangers of mercury, this was a popular treatment for skin irrirations and ulcers and parasites.
