Riddell's Binocular microscope, by Gunow, with one pair eyepieces with erecting prism and one 1in. achromatic o.g.

The binocular compound microscope with single objective, devised by Professor J. L. Riddell of the University of Louisiana in 1851, was the first practical instrument of this type. The first one was constructed in 1852 and this object is an exact duplicate of the original. It was made in 1885 by the brother of the original maker. Two prisms of special form divide the light from the objective into two beams which then proceed separately to the two eyepieces.
