When this poster was issued during the 1950s and 1960s, venereal disease described any disease spread through sexual contact. The most prevalent venereal diseases in this era included gonorrhoea and syphilis. Venereal diseases are now called STIs (sexually transmitted infections).
The Central Council for Health Education issued the poster to encourage the public to learn the dangers of venereal disease.
