Poster, with a dental health message, featuring an illustration of children bobbing for apples and the message 'Hungry between meals? - For your teeth's sake eat a fruit and salad - But still remember to clean your teeth', produced by the Central Council for Health Education, London, England, c1960-1969.
This dental health poster from the 1960s features an illustration of children bobbing for apples. The message reads: 'Hungry between meals? - For your teeth's sake eat a fruit and salad.’ A major cause of tooth decay is over-consumption of sweets, sugar-sweetened foods and high-sugar fizzy drinks. Sugars encourage acid production which slowly damages teeth, leading to decay. Healthy food such as fruit and salad contain less damaging sugars, which help children limit tooth decay.
